s designers currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied AI for Design and the Arts in Barcelona, we became increasingly interested in a feeling that surrounds every conversation about artificial intelligence: the fear of being left behind.

Our project began with a simple question: How does the accelerated adoption of AI systems transform FOMO into compulsory compliance and make AI feel inevitable?

Through our research and references, we noticed a recurring pattern: in the rush to keep up with technological progress, people often accept systems, terms, and conditions without fully understanding their implications. What begins as curiosity gradually turns into compliance, shaped by the perception that participation is no longer optional.

CARRY is a speculative artifact that materializes these invisible agreements within AI adoption. Every consent presented in the experience is based on real evidences; from news reports, investigations, research findings, and public records of documented harms — ghost labour, water and carbon costs, autonomous weapons, capital concentration, model collapse.

Through interaction with the CARRY briefcase, participants are invited to confront what they are willing to accept in exchange for access, convenience, and belonging. Rather than offering answers, CARRY creates a space for reflection on the choices we make, consciously or unconsciously, while navigating increasingly AI-driven systems. What participants feel after accepting every condition is ultimately left to them.

Tools used: Next.js, GSAP, Lenis, Supabase, Chromium (kiosk mode, Wayland/wlr-randr), Blender, Bambu Studio, Claude Code, Are.na.

Hardware used: Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (4 GB), Waveshare 10.1" DSI touchscreen, GeeekPi heatsink and fan, 27W USB-C PSU, Translucent Blue PETG and ABS 3D-printing filaments, heat-set inserts and M3 fasteners, Brother HL-3240CDW, A4 thermal printer.
